BSW Field Education

Junior Year
In the BSW program, junior year students are in field work two days a week (230 clock hours) during their second semester. Focus is on observation, fact finding, communication, relationship, social work norms, values and programs, and self-awareness. Students will learn to organize and use data for purposes of assessment. Juniors are expected to participate in direct practice with individuals, and/or small groups and to understand the familial, community, organizational and societal context of human behavior.

Senior Year
Seniors are in field work two days a week (230 clock hours) during both semesters of the academic year. Focus is on continued development of the knowledge, values and skills of the junior year and an additional concentration on interventions at all levels of practice. Seniors are expected to have assignments that combine practice with at least two levels of systems including individuals, families, groups (including task-oriented groups) and community organizations.
